Ever need a little help sleeping? I think we all do from time to time. Lots of things cause sleeping upsets. Having a newborn, stress, hormone levels, are only a few of the many factors capable of causing poor sleep at night.
Yet nothing is more critical to your health than sufficient sleep!
Your brain in particular is very susceptible to the effects of lack of sleep. Studies in mice show that their neural pathways actually disappeared under sleep deprivation. (don’t know about you but I’d prefer to keep my neural pathways intact!) 🙂 Additionally, anytime the brain is under duress, it is also going to affect your hormone levels, since it’s essentially the control center for the body. And whacked out hormone levels can often cause you to get even less sleep! So sometimes it’s a vicious cycle, one you want to get OFF of as quickly as possible!

So…you want to get more sleep. But how to do it? Since so many factors affect both the quantity and quality of our sleep, this article isn’t meant to be an exhaustive dive into every possible element you could explore in order to get better sleep…though let me know if you’d like to hear more about this topic!
Instead today I just want to recommend two products to you that I find to be personally effective and love!
The first is called Sleep Essence (pictured above). Sleep Essence is a powerful blend of organic chamomile flower, lemon balm, linden flower, passionflower, skullcap, and lavender. The herbs in this blend are calming to your nervous system, meaning they help you to fall asleep more easily, and to stay asleep all night. They’re also great for relaxing!
Sleep Essence is a giant liquid bottle. You take a generous amount nightly (4 tbsp) It’s technically a tea blend. It’s great just for relaxing too!
I personally wouldn’t give this to children. I also wouldn’t take it when pregnant or nursing without consulting your healthcare provider!
However, I would recommend Gaia’s Calm Restore for kids, which has many of the same ingredients in it, but in little people proportions!
Secondly, I LOVE this Kava Calm blend by Cedar Bear. It’s extremely potent. You can feel the effects within a couple of minutes. Warning, don’t take it if you’re not ready to wind down for the night/sleep is near! Everyone’s body will be affected differently, so experiment with dosages to see what works best for you. Kava Calm is a blend of kava, hops, valerian, passionflower, schisandra berry, anise, licorice and more. So it’s also great for your adrenals! (And anything that’s good for the adrenals is also going to help you sleep better at night.

These are only a few ways to help relieve nervous tension, stress, support your adrenals, and sleep better at night, but I hope they help you!
