I love peanut butter. I love it on apples, bananas, on sprouted bread with honey, with shredded coconut, in cookies, you name it, the list goes on and on!
However, conventional peanut butter is filled with pesticides (peanuts are one of the most heavily sprayed crops) and can be filled with a carcinogen called aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are a type of fungus that can grow on the shells of peanuts.
Fortunately, certain varieties of peanuts much safer than others. Valencia peanuts are reported to be aflatoxin free and are the variety used in the best organic peanut butter on the market, made by Maranatha Foods.
We get our peanut butter at Whole Foods or through our co op, and our entire family loves their creamy and crunchy versions, which are made with a hint of sea salt. They also sell divine organic almond butters.
All this talk of peanut butter is making me crave a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with some raw milk! I’ll have to go see what I can do about that! 😉
