Read Your Way to Amazing Health: The Top 5 Books for Achieving the Health of Your Dreams: Part 2
By: Catherine Slezinger
If you read Monday’s post, then you already know what my top two favorite books are for achieving amazing health- The Maker’s Diet by Jordan Rubin and Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. Today we’ll discuss my next top 3!
My #3 favorite book for optimal health is the Great Physician’s RX series by Jordan Rubin. This is very similar to the Maker’s Diet, but it goes a little more in detail regarding the practical, day to day elements of the lifestyle, and the program eases you in a bit more. The 40 days of the Maker’s Diet is pretty all or nothing. The main book is The Great Physician’s RX for Health and Wellness, but he also has at least a dozen others like The Great Physician’s RX for cold & flu, for arthritis, for diabetes, for fibromyalgia, for cancer, for IBS, and the list goes on! These are powerful tools for people suffering from specific health conditions.
My #4 favorite book is one that really helped me to lose baby weight!! (After 3 babies in 3 years, I had a lot of work to do…that journey is chronicled here.) It’s called Eat Fat Lose Fat by Sally Fallon (you’ll remember she’s the author of Nourishing Traditions) and it incorporates all the same principles, but with a twist: using coconut products and coconut oil specifically for weight loss. There are 3 variations of the program, and tons of information and research on why coconut oil is so healthy. If you’re suffering from any health condition, want to lose weight, or you’re just curious about why coconut oil is so amazing, this book is for you!
And last but certainly not least, one of my newer favorites, which I received as a Christmas present- Cultured Food Life by Donna Schwenk. Donna is the Weston A Price Foundation leader in my local area, and a true expert when it comes to fermented foods!!!
She is a wealth of knowledge and an amazing woman- I hope my kitchen can look like hers when I grow up, filled with fermented foods and drinks on my counter! She’s very creative with her recipes, and there’s a little bit of everything in her cookbook- from standard ferments like sauerkraut, kombucha, and kefir, to probiotic salsa and kefir ice cream.
She also has a section on sprouted grains as well. What I love most about Donna and her recipes: she makes fermented foods EASY!! They are fuss free and feel so simple. (Because, I’m sorry, but if I have to wash my kefir grains 3x per day, I am NOT making kefir!) I love Donna and her cookbook is available on her website for hard copy or instant download.
So there you have it! There are many others that could have made the list, but those are my top 5! I hope these help you on your journey to optimal health as much as they’ve helped me on mine!
Blessings to you!
With much love,
