Most everyone thinks that if they want to have a treat, that they need to cheat and go eat toxic white flour and white sugar. Nothing could be further from the truth! You CAN have healthy treats, you mostly just need to make them yourself 🙂
In our house, we love having this simple chocolate cake served for birthdays. My Mom created the recipe and I grew up eating it at nearly every special occasion our family held. It was originally a normal cake recipe, but it converts beautifully to sprouted flour and unrefined sugar!
You can also make a delicious frosting to accompany it (whatever is your favorite kind) but we often just serve it warm from the oven with a delicious scoop of organic ice cream. (Here’s a recipe for homemade organic raw ice cream)
Enjoy this delicious treat!
Easy Sprouted Flour Birthday Cake: (or anytime you need something delicious and chocolatey!)
2 cups sprouted flour
2 cups organic coconut sugar or organic Rapadura
1 cup organic butter
4 tbsp. organic cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, such as Himalayan Salt or Real salt
1 cup water
1/2 cup buttermilk (Combine 1/2 cup organic raw milk with 1.5 tsp organic lemon juice OR 2-3 drops lemon oil to make buttermilk)
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 organic eggs (slightly beaten)
1 teaspoon organic vanilla
Sift together 2 cups sprouted flour and 2 cups organic coconut sugar or Rapadura, set aside.
Put in a saucepan and bring to boil the: 1 cup butter, 4 tbsp cocoa, 1/2 tsp. salt, and 1 cup water.
Add liquid cocoa mixture to flour mixture and beat well.
Add buttermilk, baking soda, the 2 eggs, and vanilla.
*Optional* Stir in 1 cup organic chocolate chips.
Bake in a 9×13 inch greased pan for 25-30 minutes with oven temperature at 400 degrees. Check for doneness by inserting a sharp knife into the center of the cake. When it comes out clean, the cake is done. 🙂 Serve with organic ice cream or make your own favorite frosting.
