Easy Organic Apple Cobbler For the Fourth!

When I was growing up, we used to go on the roof of our church and watch the fireworks for the Fourth of July. I love Fourth of July and it’s so fun to have special treats on this special holiday of our country’s founding. On this beloved holiday, may we keep in mind these powerful and poignant words from Abraham Lincoln:

“that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Enjoy this time of celebrating true Freedom, together with your family and friends!


The recipe comes from a close family friend, one of the most hospitable women I know, and a fabulous cook. I’ve adapted it to include whole grains and Rapadura sugar.

Make this the next time you want to spoil yourself or a loved one! This goes beautifully with some homemade raw vanilla ice cream.


1 c. sprouted flour
1 tsp. baking powder, I like Rumford’s Aluminum Free
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1/2 c. organic Rapadura
1/2 tsp. organic cinnamon
1 c. organic milk
2 c. organic fruit( blackberries,peaches,apple slices, etc.)
1/2 c. organic Rapadura (for fruit)
1 stick organic butter

Combine dry ingredients. Add milk and mix well. Warm fruit with 1/2 cup of Rapadura. Melt butter in 8″x 8″ baking dish. Add batter to melted butter, then add fruit. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.

Serve with some vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and ENJOY!
